Historic Farmhouse Revival

Nestled on a 10-acre estate in Zionsville, this 1900s farmhouse needed a thoughtful transformation to better suit the homeowners’ lifestyle. As empty nesters with busy schedules, they wanted a space that embraced modern farmhouse style, improved functionality, and allowed for seamless interaction between the kitchen and living areas.

The original kitchen was too small and lacked a clear path for expansion. Our solution? Flip the kitchen and dining areas to create an open floor plan that maximizes space and flow. A large multipurpose island became the heart of the kitchen—perfect for food prep, casual dining, and entertaining. Fully integrated appliances, a pro-style range with brass knobs, a pot filler, and a high-speed cooking oven elevated the cooking experience, while custom cabinetry offered smart storage solutions.

Since a walk-in pantry wasn’t a priority, we designed a butler’s pantry that doubles as a bar and serving area, complete with a beverage refrigerator, open shelving, glass-door cabinetry, and wine storage cubbies. A barn door separates this space from the mudroom, which was a key addition to keep the front foyer clutter-free and provide an easy-access spot for their pets.

To bring warmth and character to the sunroom, we replaced all the windows with a fixed upper and operable awning window that frame the stunning outdoor views. A stained plank ceiling and rich green walls add an inviting, nature-inspired touch.

This historic renovation not only enhanced the home’s function but also preserved its original charm, proving that classic and contemporary can coexist beautifully.
