This homeowner came to us wanting to convert his seldom used screened-in-porch into a home office. The porch had access from the living room only, and he wanted the office to feel like a natural extension of the home. We replaced the windows in the living room with a double door to allow access to the backyard and patio. We framed in the porch, opened the flat porch ceiling to create a vaulted ceiling. We then added large windows to allow for natural light in the office, as well as the bedroom. Additionally, we opened the doorway from the bedroom to the porch with frosted glass pocket doors, which makes the office feel like an extension of the bedroom. We built a custom painted desk with lots of storage and working space and included niches to showcase his beautiful art pieces.
During the renovations, this homeowner saw opportunity for additional architectural details that could enhance other areas of his home. The dining area had a lower ceiling than the living room and he wanted to create a more intimate feel in the dining area without raising the ceiling height. We added a multi layered paneled area over his dining room table and painted it a dark gray which created two distinct areas which showcase his furnishings beautifully. Throughout the home we upgraded the lighting and added art lighting to showcase some of his impressive artwork. In the powder bath we replaced the mirror and sconces with a new black beveled framed mirror and modern sconces. In his bedroom we added a paneled wall behind the bed for an impressive, customized look. We refinished the hardwoods throughout the first floor a darker color and the homeowner is thrilled in how it integrates the entire first floor.
The homeowner is delighted with the results, which captures his polished contemporary style and gives a continuous aesthetic throughout his home. His office is now not only functional but a stunning extension of his bedroom making it feel like “a master suite”. The additional architectural details that were added throughout the entire home not only allow it to “look and feel” like him, but also is a space he is proud of, and comfortable entertaining in.
