This multi-generation family was ready for a refresh and worked with Corinthian to help them achieve their goal. They wanted an updated kitchen with improved function and flow with an open floor plan that was comfortable to serve an ordinary supper or entertain the entire family for Thanksgiving. The floor plan of the kitchen, breakfast nook area, dining room, family room, powder bath and laundry room were disconnected so we opened these areas up with a new layout and design. Their goal was for the transformation to look as if it’s always been part of the house. Her design is a French influence, and she desired the finished project to appear as if the finishes and design had been layered in over time. A curation of what she’s gathered over time.
The nook area had a step down that limited the space to integrate into the kitchen. By raising the floor level with the rest of the 1st floor it became an extension of the kitchen. The kitchen is not much larger than the original floor plan, however with an improved layout and function it appears larger. We added an island and hutch with improved organization and storage, capturing every square inch with a purpose in mind. Custom cabinetry and marble countertops are gorgeous and the large custom range hood with gold trim is a showstopper for this kitchen. A marble panel sink is not only functional but also protects the cabinet from water. A bridge faucet incorporates old world with the new. The kitchen is now easily accessible from the dining room, family room, pantry, and powder bath.
By removing a doorway, we had space to add a wet bar that allows access to guests in the kitchen, dining room, or living room to mix a drink. This area is now open and easily allows guests spread throughout all rooms to feel connected. The bar has a gorgeous black finish with brass fixtures and hardware for an added pop. The wire door fronts are beautiful, and the library lights not only light the space but provide a beautiful added architectural detail.
Due to the reconfiguration of the spaces, new windows, and doors on the back of the home were necessary in the kitchen and nook. The doors and windows in the nook were raised for the new floor height. The kitchen sink window was widened to a bank of three, allowing a better view to the stunning back yard.
An arched opening gives old world charm to the hall that leads to the pantry and mini mudroom. Hooks for coats, a seat for putting on shoes, and closed storage are perfect for the little mudroom. The powder bath boasts a wall hung farmers sink, and garden lights add just the right touch to combine old with new.
Finally, we refinished all the hardwood floors and made a few minor modifications (moving doorways, new doors, painting, lights) that transformed the entire floor. The entire renovation now allows them to easily entertain their increasing family and friends. The finished product seamlessly blends the old world French aesthetic with a modern twist.
