Our homeowners purchased this home for its excellent location and great bones. They wanted to restore it to the era of its time while updating and modernizing it with the elegance it deserved. To add to our challenges, they were living out of the country during our design and renovation, but we had great communication using modern technologies to ensure we could deliver what they hoped to achieve.
We opened space to create an updated and more functional kitchen for this active family. We relocated appliances for efficiency and added an island and relocated a chimney. We had structural challenges with the sagging hardwood floors which required us to reframe floor systems. We antique finished the hardwoods reminiscent of the 1940’s.
We added wainscoting in the dining room and entry stair hallway to enhance the old-world look as well as added some arched openings to match other areas of the home. We also added custom moldings to the fireplace wall to allow it to shine as a focal point in the space, utilizing restored antique light fixtures. In the powder bath, we took down a wall that separated the stool room from the vanity to allow more space and added wainscot and a beautiful grass cloth wallpaper. The flooring is cement tile and adds to the aesthetic of the space. The finished result is stunning and truly honors the integrity of the original time period of this home.
We were delighted to work with them again on two additions. They had an attached 2 car garage on the back of their house that would not accommodate their vehicles and they were also unable to easily access their large backyard. They asked us to design and construct additional living space with lots of storage, providing access and a visual of the backyard, as well as build a detached garage and patio.
We tore off the original garage and added the gorgeous sunroom, which boasts custom lockers with a built-in bench, a beverage center, heated brick paver floors and pocket glass French doors. A limestone step and stoop lead to a blue stone paver patio with a brick paver border and wrought iron handrails makes watching kids in the pool or relaxing by the grill a delight.
A large brick veneered 2 car garage was designed with a carriage house aesthetic, complete with dog dormers mimicking those on the house, copper gutters, slate roof and carriage house garage doors.
The finished additions have seamlessly added functional living areas that appear original to the home and allow this active family easy access to their backyard and pool.
In this homeowners’ own words:
“We would highly recommend Corinthian who was able to walk into a dated, 95 year old home, see our vision and help to make it a reality.”
