This delightful family loved their home but were desirous of a more open kitchen/dining area to accommodate gatherings with their now grown sons and friends/family. Their 1980’s style home had the dining room separated with a wall from the kitchen, which limited traffic flow and function, often squelching socialization between the spaces. We removed everything from the existing kitchen including the bulkhead, and eliminated the wall to allow for a larger and more functional island, that now allows the entire family to sit and chat or assist with meal prep. White cabinets with a soft gray glaze now expand to the ceiling and a soft mottled white, grey and taupe quartz countertop are the backdrop for the soft gray 3×12 backsplash. The island now serves not only for seating and meal prep, but as bake central with larger drawers and cabinets for baking wares. We were able to maintain their budget while delivering an updated space to enjoy their family and friends in style.
